We are devoted to manufacturing responsibly.
As multi-sport athletes, we are tired of industry telling us we need to upgrade every year. What we buy and how often we buy has a direct effect on the health of our planet. Manufacturing has nearly twice the carbon footprint of transportation (30% vs 16%). Some studies actually link 50% of global emissions to manufacturing. The more stuff we buy, the more stuff we make, the more stuff we move, the more carbon dioxide and waste we generate. There's nothing "sustainable" about that, and we're not going to pretend.
Consume Less.
Sadly, the effects of manufacturing are in some cases most prevalent in the oceans: acidification, pollution, warming waters, plastic waste are destroying the places and habitats we all love and foil. At Cedrus, we are devoted to manufacturing responsibly, which ultimately means making less through better and longer lasting products.
Lasts Longer
Our goal from day one has been to design and manufacture a mast through a 5 year product lifecycle. To last 5 years, it needs to be built with exceptional quality, design, and materials. It needs to stay relevant, or compatible, hence the modular architecture. It needs to be so far ahead of the curve when it launches, that it takes competitors 5 years plus to catch up. While the mast is designed to last a lifetime, we know our industry moves fast and some atheletes may want or need new technology as they progress.
Less Waste
To reduce waste in the research and development process we rely heavily on engineering and simulation to iterate through hundreds of design variables to limit the number of prototypes we produce.
Our hollow architecture means less material and waste, and lower weight reduces emissions due to shipping, transportation, and end-of-life.
Small production batches allow us to focus on continuous improvement, from the design to the production methods, reducing the likelihood of undesirable products that ultimately get incinerated or dumped (yes, this happens).
Local manufacturing supports communities.
We operate in regions with some of the most strict environmental regulations in the world. Our energy sources are cleaner, our waste is properly disposed of, and our zero-VOC emissions are better for our employees and our communities.
Owning our manufacturing is critical to our goal, and having a short supply chain helps. Cedrus stands as a testament to what responsible manufacturing can achieve. By adopting on-demand production, we eliminate excess inventory and ensure that each mast is custom-made to meet our customers' specific needs. Our packaging strategy further reflects our environmental commitment, utilizing 100% recycled or reused materials, even if it means higher costs and more complex order fulfillment.
We're proud to offer a product that doesn't just last longer but also supports the idea of consuming less. Cedrus is more than just a brand; it's a promise to our customers and the planet that we will continue to push the boundaries of sustainability in the sporting goods industry, ensuring that our oceans, mountains, and trails remain vibrant and accessible.
